FAQ - Why do I have restrictions on my registration?

Registration restrictions apply to graduate courses (numbered 8000 - 9999) offered by the Robinson College of Business as described below.

Exemptions defined for each restriction are the only exemptions that will be permitted. Students who are exempted from these restrictions have already been authorized for registration. Students who should have received an exemption from any of these restrictions but who continue to receive a "not authorized" error message during registration should contact the Robinson College of Business, Graduate Admissions & Student Services, at 404/463-4568, 315 RCB Building (35 Broad Street), to correct the error.

It is the students' responsibility to be familiar with these regulations and to register for classes for which they are eligible.

RCB Master's Communication Skills Requirement

  • All RCB master's students, regardless of program or status, must satisfactorily complete a noncredit workshop in "Communication Skills and Strategies" before registering for their fourth 8000-level RCB class. This regulation applies to RCB master's students only.

For information regarding registering for the workshop, contact the Business Communication Programs Office at 404/413-7681. Students who believe they have successfully completed the workshop but continue to receive an error message during registration should contact the Business Communication Programs Office at 404/413-7681 to correct the error.
  • "Majors Only" Registration in Phase I for CIS Courses

Phase I registration in graduate computer information systems courses (CIS courses numbered 8000 - 9999) is restricted to students officially seeking the following degrees/majors/concentrations: MS with major in CIS; PhD with major in CIS or MIS; MPA with specialization in CIS; and graduate certificate program in Electronic Commerce. Exception: MBA/IS students who have applied to graduate may register for CIS classes during Phase I.
  • "Majors Only" Registration in Phase I in Accounting/Tax

Only students who are officially seeking the graduate certificate in Accountancy or a degree in the School of Accountancy (BBA/Ac, MBA/Ac, MPA, MTx, PhD/Acy) may register for accounting or tax major/elective courses during Phase I registration.

Exception: Students who have previously obtained a degree from GSU will be permitted to register for accounting/tax classes during Phase I. To officially declare a major, students should contact the RCB Office of Graduate Admissions & Student Services at 404/463-4568.

Registration for accounting and tax major/elective courses is open to all students beginning in Phase II. The following accounting core courses are exempt from this registration restriction and are eligible for registration beginning in Phase I: Acct 2101, Acct 2102, MBA 8121, and MBA 8121, MBA 8683.

Prerequisite Enforcement

Students are cautioned that prerequisites are enforced in many Robinson College of Business classes. At this time, the GoSOLAR system monitors only a small portion of the prerequisites, but students who register for any course without the necessary prerequisites are subject to administrative withdrawal from classes by the instructor, department, or college. Active enforcement of prerequisites occurs in many classes (i.e., all MBA core courses, all accounting/tax upper-level and graduate courses, Fi 3300, Mk 4900). In addition, instructors have the prerogative to enforce prerequisites in individual classes by withdrawing violators. Course prerequisites are listed in the graduate and undergraduate catalogs with the course descriptions. Students should familiarize themselves with course prerequisites prior to registering.
