Students must make sure that the class will transfer back to GSU as an equivalent to a course in their degree program; typically this is done by submitting a syllabus to the Office of Undergraduate Academic Assistance. Additionally, in the case of transient status, the other institution has to meet the accreditation standards for acceptable credit. This is handled by the admissions and registrar staff.
Students must meet the appropriate regulations at BOTH schools to be approved to take a class as a transient student (this includes prerequisites and the GPA requirements on upper level business courses). Once a course has been attempted at GSU, students may not receive degree credit for the same course from another institution. A grade of 'W' is considered an attempt.
Cross Registration
Applying to take courses in a Cross Registration status is appropriate when the student will be enrolled at GSU simultaneously. This is approved only in situations where another institution is teaching a class that we are not offering (either during that specific term or that we simply don't teach). Courses taken in a Cross Registration status are considered "resident" credits (that is, the registration and payment takes place at GSU, rather than the hosting institution).
To request this status, students must submit the appropriate Cross Registration form. There is a limited listing of schools at which a student may attend in a Cross Registration status. See the form for the specific list of institutions.
