Doctoral Program: Requirements
The School of Accountancy's doctoral program trains students for a future career in research and teaching. The faculty have established course and research requirements that prepare candidates to be scholars in their fields.
During the course work phase, each student must complete the tools-related coursework specified in their program of study as well as those specially recommended for his or her field of research. The course requirements have been designed by the faculty to provide a student with the knowledge and skills in the areas of methodology and theory.
In addition to coursework, students are expected to engage in research apprenticeships, participate in research workshops, present research papers, and pass comprehensive field exams.
After completing these requirements, a student is admitted to candidacy and progress in candidacy requires that a student prepares to concentrate on research and writing the dissertation. The dissertation-in-progress or the dissertation proposal must be defended one or more times prior to submission of the finished dissertation.
