Jesús León currently is Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer for CIENA Corporation, a company that develops and markets communications network platforms and software.
Prior to assuming this role in August 2002, Jesús served as Senior Vice President with the Metropolitan Transport Division beginning in May 2001, assuming leadership of the Metropolitan Switching Division in August of that year. Other positions he held since joining CIENA in November 1996 include Senior Vice President, Products and Technology and Vice President, Access Products.

Jesús has led design teams in the development of high-technology products for the telecommunications industry, including products recognized worldwide as best in class. For example, the Ciena CoreDirector, a product with six nines reliability, is used in the largest telecommunications network in the world to provide connectivity and network protection.
From December 1995 to October 1996, Jesús served as Vice President, Engineering, for the Access Systems Division of Alcatel Standard Eléctrica, S.A. ("Alcatel Eléctrica"), a division of Alcatel Alsthom Group, where he led the product development for all access products with responsibility for more than 1,200 engineers in Europe, Australia and South Africa. Mr. León served in various other positions with Alcatel Standard Eléctrica from 1990-1991 and 1993-1995.
Jesús started his professional career in the Atlanta area, where he worked for 17 years holding engineering and management positions at Scientific Atlanta, AT&T Tridom, Americom and Digital Transmission Systems.
Jesús holds a B.S.E.E. and M.E. from the University of Florida, an A.B.D. (all but doctoral dissertation) from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. from Georgia State University. |
