Robinson Career Success Stories

Kia Rainey, BBA, 2009 graduate

Current title and a brief overview about your work and your role in your organization:
Business Intelligence Analyst - Responsible for monitoring the use and contributing to the ongoing development of Hewlett Packard's proprietary enterprise data warehouse and application package.

How did you find your current position? What role did networking play (if any)?
Career Services Advisor, Cynetta Freeman, and CIS Department Associate Chair, Carl Stucke, recommended me, amongst several others, as a strong candidate for the position. I believe their recommendations stemmed from the relationships I forged with them throughout my collegiate career in the Robinson College.

In retrospect, what do you wish you had done differently while you were going through the program?
I would have worked harder to secure internship opportunities.

What is the best advice you would give current Robinson students about career preparation and planning?
Whatever you spend time doing, do it well. If you prove yourself to be a conscientious person with high personal standards, people will be impressed by the quality of your character regardless of specific career skills or experience.

I chose to attend Robinson because…
of the esteem of the CIS program, convenient location, the variety of available class schedules and the affordability of the program.

My favorite things about Robinson are…
the caliber and attitudes of the professors and support staff, access to the latest technology, the forward-looking curriculum, and the diversity of the student body.

Even though most people land their jobs through networking, how did Robinson's Career Management Center help you in your career planning?
I benefitted from the CMC's web portal, which allowed me to explore and apply for various positions quickly and easily. Most importantly, I appreciated the personal care that was given to help me find a career in technology once I graduated.

My favorite professors are…
Dr. Carl Stucke, Dr. Richard Welke, Dr. Bala Ramesh and Dr. Bill Robinson. These professors are accomplished, interesting, engaging, encouraging, inspiring, fun, funny and interested in spurring students to success.

My long-term (5-10 year) professional goal is…
to manage projects of technological significance, the outcome of which has a widespread, positive impact on my organization.

Outside of work, what's important to you?
Happiness, family, friends, spending my time well, having fun and fast cars (only slightly joking about that one).
