Frederik Beuk
Frederik Beuk is a third year marketing PhD student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He has a strong research interest in innovation and new product development, both from a consumer perspective as well as a strategy perspective. His dissertation research focuses on the strategic decisions for the Launch phase of innovations, and the differences between launch performance and new product performance.

Frederik has a Master of Science degree in Economics, as well as a Master of Laws degree, both from the Erasmus University Rotterdam. Prior to joining UIC's marketing PhD program in 2006, Frederik worked for 6 years in various financial management roles for Unilever in the Netherlands and Belgium. Here Frederik developed a dark appreciation for meat snacks, as at one point his office was literally only 7 feet above a near continuously operating sausage production line.

Before Unilever he was a junior researcher for EFMI Business School, where he worked on various research projects such as: marketing induced obesity, consumer reactions to out-of-stock situations, electronic commerce in the fast moving consumer goods industry, the rise of e-marketplaces, and innovation management in the food industry.

Frederik is not afraid of heights. Because Ivory towers typically end somewhere around the 30th floor, in his spare time Frederik is also pursuing a pilot license. He plans to graduate from the PhD program in May 2010.
