Christine Jacobs is Chairman, President and CEO of Theragenics Corporation ®, based in Buford, Georgia. Theragenics manufactures and distributes TheraSeed®, an FDA-cleared device primarily used for the treatment of prostate cancer in over 800 hospitals throughout the United States. Theragenics' 2000 sales were over $44 million.
During Jacobs tenure as CEO, Theragenics' assets have grown 1,565 percent, and the company's production capabilities have quadrupled in size.
Prior to becoming CEO in 1993, Jacobs held the positions of President, Chief Operating Officer, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and Director of Marketing within the company. On August 6, 1998 Jacobs transferred Theragenics' stock form the NASDAQ to the New York Stock Exchange and became the first woman Chairman/CEO in the history of the NYSE to transfer stock markets and ring the opening bell.
Before joining Theragenics, Jacobs held a regional management position with Amersham Corporation of Chicago, a supplier of radioactive chemicals for tumor therapy, diagnostics and research.
Jacobs is a member of the McKesson/HBOC Board of Directors and serves on the Compensation and Governance Committees. She is also on the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Cardiovascular Research Institute and Landauer, Inc. She is serving a three-year term on the Listed Company Advisory Committee to the NYSE and is serving a second three-year term on the Board of Councilors of the Carter Center in Atlanta. She is a Board member of the Georgia State University Foundation and sits on the Editorial Advisory Board for Business to Business Magazine. She is involved in numerous other professional and civic endeavors.
