The Southern Institute for Business and Professional Ethics Receives $100,000 Public Relations Grant from Manning, Selvage & Lee

January 5, 2003
ATLANTA - Manning, Selvage & Lee (MS&L), one of the leading public relations firms in Atlanta, announced today that the Southern Institute for Business and Professional Ethics is the recipient of the agency's George Goodwin Community Grant for 2003-2004. The Southern Institute will receive $100,000 of in-kind public relations and marketing communications professional services during the two-year grant period.

"The Southern Institute for Business and Professional Ethics has been an invaluable resource to the business community over the past ten years," Jim Tsokanos, MS&L/Atlanta managing director, said. "The organization is making a tremendous difference for hundreds of companies and for the business community as a whole. We are eager to support their very necessary and pertinent efforts."

The George Goodwin Grant program was developed in 1998 to continue the legacy of MS&L/Atlanta founder George Goodwin, who has given Atlanta more than 50 years of community service. Its purpose is to provide an Atlanta-based non-profit agency with marketing communications guidance, planning and programs for two years.

"We are thrilled to be the recipient of this generous grant of public relations expertise," said John Knapp, president of The Southern Institute. "We are especially pleased that it's in the name of one of Atlanta's premier communications professionals, and we look forward to working closely with MS&L to promote business ethics and raise awareness of our organization."

Knapp said the Institute plans to use the public relations services to support its expansion of services to other business centers in the Southeast, and to promote sales of CarTown, U.S.A., an innovative business ethics simulation for high school classrooms.

"The work of The Southern Institute is more important than ever ," said George Goodwin, who remains a senior counselor with MS&L. "It's especially timely right now, and I'm very pleased by this selection."

The Southern Institute, founded in Atlanta in 1993, is a unit of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University. Its mission is to raise awareness and understanding of ethics in business and professional life, to stimulate a productive community dialogue about ethical issues and responsibilities, and in doing so, to contribute to the betterment of business and society by providing a variety of educational programs and services to businesses and other organizations.
