 | Overview: Mobile and wireless technologies are one of the most exciting developments occurring in computing, information, and health sciences. This course will focus on both wireless technologies and their applications. These will include advances in 3G wireless networks, wireless LAN, satellites, and fixed wireless networks. Ad hoc networks, broadband wireless, quality of service, and location management also will be included. Two major applications of these technologies will be discussed in detail: mobile commerce and pervasive healthcare. We will show how these technologies are changing healthcare service delivery in home, hospital, assisted living, and nursing home settings.

Upkar Varshney, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Robinson College. He speaks extensively about wireless networks, pervasive healthcare, ubiquitous computing, and mobile commerce. His work in the areas of wireless networks and mobile commerce are among the most cited and reviewed research in the world. He has presented tutorials, workshops, and keynotes speeches at wireless, computing, and information systems conferences and has received grants from many funding agencies including the National Science Foundation.
