Overview:
Today, effective risk management is essential for an organization's success; and information security is a fundamental component of managing this risk. This course develops the knowledge and skills needed for protecting the information and information systems within organizations. It focuses on the threats and protections; on the concepts and methods associated with planning, designing, implementing, managing, and auditing security; and on business continuity planning. The course also covers the associated issues of the ethical uses of information and of privacy considerations.

Faculty:
Carl Stucke, Ph.D., is the Associate Chairman of the CIS Department at the Robinson College. He has 20 years of experience that spans senior technical and management positions at Equifax, including Chief Scientist and Vice President of research and development (R&D). While there, he launched a Certificate Authority public key infrastructure, initiated development of patented remote consumer-identity verification, and led Equifax's R&D efforts in envisioning and fielding consumer products. He teaches security and privacy in the Robinson College and is an active researcher in information security and risk management.

Robin Sundaram is the Vice President of Information Security at ChoicePoint, Inc. In this role, he has responsibility for creating business continuity, security, and risk management policies, procedures, and standards; coordinating with operations to implement these policies; and measuring and ensuring compliance with the company's information security framework. ChoicePoint's Information Security program has been recognized by many, including Gartner, to be a "role model" for other companies. Prior to joining ChoicePoint, Mr. Sundaram spent over six years at Schlumberger. He was also closely involved in the design of the technical security architecture for the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece. He holds several information security certifications, including the CISSP, CISA, and CISM.
