Overview:
The Internet has become a critical component
of business and commerce. It has both connected people and empowered them to the point that the future of human society is now inextricably linked to the future of the World Wide Web. The Web has evolved from a place where people primarily retrieve information to one in which people actively engage in both creating and sharing content. This change has been supported by Web 2.0 tools that provide opportunities for people to collaborate and share knowledge in important new ways. Such open source- or community created-knowledge increases the flexibility of content.

This course examines various Web 2.0 technologies. Social networking sites, such as Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace, provide convenient ways for people to create content and share personal information with friends; while other sites, such as LinkedIn, provide professionals with new ways to leverage their business contacts.

Virtual worlds are used to conduct seminars and share product information and wikis serve as dynamic repositories of information with multiple wiki pages enabling fine-grained dissemination of information.

Blogs provide a means for people to post thoughts and opinions and to generate a conversation about topics of common interest with instant feedback while additional Web 2.0 technologies, such as tagging and RSS feeds, support other forms of digital enablement.

Participants Will Learn to:

  • Understand the different types of Web 2.0 technologies that exist
  • Identify how to leverage content from Web 2.0 technologies
  • Understand how companies are using Web 2.0 technologies to support their
    business operations
  • Gain hands-on experience with one or more Web 2.0 tools
