Program Description
Effective management in today's world requires adaptation to change. In turn, any change within an organization requires project management. In this hands-on program, participants will learn to initiate, plan, monitor, control, and close projects. Participants will be able to acquire the skills needed to complete projects on time, within scope and budget, while meeting quality standards. Participants will also develop a working knowledge of MS Project®.
Through individual and team exercises, participants will receive a complete project management training experience. The program will focus on identifying customer needs, defining project scope and objectives, identifying project risks, creating a project work breakdown structure, and generating a project schedule and budget. Participants will develop a comprehensive project plan, including time, cost, and quality objectives, and execute a dedicated approach to monitoring and controlling progress according to the project plan. Participants will also learn from actual examples of project plan illustrations.
This program is designed to benefit two groups:
- Project managers and project team members who need a practical, working knowledge of the structured project management methodology. Both project managers and team members will develop a practical, working knowledge of the project management process. Project team members will develop a "hands-on" understanding of how project activities and actions fit together interactively within a "systems" effort.
- Program managers and general managers in organizations with significant oversight responsibilities for projects, but not necessarily direct responsibility as a project manager. These managers may actually manage projects directly in some instances, but in many instances, these individuals are really "managers of project managers" or managers who have general responsibility for an entire program of projects.
Participants Will Learn To:
- Define customer project needs
- Draft the project charter and define project scope
- Develop a project work breakdown structure and network diagram
- Estimate activity durations and generate a project schedule
- Identify and plan project resources
- Strategically balance project duration, cost, and scope
- Execute, monitor, and control a project against the plan
- Apply project management software
