When Joy Rohadfox took the helm as CEO of Rohadfox Construction Control Services (RCCSC) in 2001, she knew that, in addition to the expected challenges facing a female minority owner in a male-dominated industry, she also would have to live up to the extraordinary values and business principles that her father instilled in her and the company 30 years ago. RCCSC is an engineering and construction management firm, founded by Ronald Rohadfox. Joy serves as the key driver for RCCSC's strategic direction. "When I think about how hard my father worked to gain respect in this industry, it reminds me that I must constantly stay focused on improving my skill set to build a stronger organization," Joy says. This focus has led to a variety of high-profile projects for RCCSC's resume, including contracts with Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and the Federal Highway Administration.
"I believe that the challenges that I face today are nothing compared to what my mother and father endured years ago, while building this business and supporting a young family," she says. "This is why I decided to earn an MBA; I like to challenge myself with new goals frequently, and my mother always taught me that you are never too old to learn." She believes that in order to be a successful leader, you must be willing to learn. She chose the Robinson College of Business' Professional MBA program because of the class schedule, convenient location and peer learning environment.
Rohadfox has enjoyed having one-on-one relationships with her professors, whom she finds readily available by email or cell phone. "It's almost like a work environment, and they are your colleagues," she says. "I believe the core competencies stressed in the program will make me a better leader, and the teamwork the program encourages will assist me in delegating responsibilities to employees. The skills honed through the PMBA program will build a strong foundation that will ensure the future success and growth of RCCSC."
