Brown is the recipient of the American Accounting Association’s Outstanding Accounting Educator Award for 2006. He has over 80 publications and he has made more than 160 presentations at universities and professional conferences. He has published at least two articles in each of 13 journals including The Accounting Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Journal of Finance, and Financial Analysts Journal. His 100+ media interviews and citations include: Atlanta Business Chronicle, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Barron’s, Bloomberg Forum, Bloomberg Personal Finance, Business Week, The Chicago Tribune, CFO Magazine, CNBC, Des Spiegel, The Economist, Forbes, Fortune, Institutional Investor, Investor's Business Daily, Newsweek, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal.
Brown is a former editor of The Accounting Review, and he is an associate editor of Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance and Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting. He is a member of the executive committee of the Annual Conference on Financial Economics and Accounting, and he has organized its accounting track in 1991, 1997 and 2006.
