Robinson Cosponsors Best of Business; Giuliani Guest Speaker
Rudy Giuliani For the second consecutive year, the Robinson College was one of the sponsors of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Georgia 100 Best of Business breakfast. This year the event was held May 18 at the Grand Hyatt in Buckhead and featured as guest speaker former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani. The mayor discussed his new book, Leadership, and also relayed stories from his term in office, including the harrowing moments surrounding 9/11, New York’s major power blackout, and how he spearheaded the move that substantially reduced crime in the nation’s largest city. The AJC is also the media sponsor for RCB’s Business Hall of Fame.

Investing 101
First-time mutual fund investors face a mind-boggling array of choices, says the Associated Press. To help demystify things, they talked to Conrad Ciccotello, associate professor and director of Robinson’s Graduate Personal Financial Planning (PFP) programs. According to Ciccotello, "All funds have operating expenses such as advisory fees, administrative expenses, and so on. When you’re getting star ted, you may be better off with a broad, passively managed fund that captures the total stock market."

Business Ball of Fame Recognizes Atlanta Mayor, Georgia Business Leaders Jere Drummond, Shirley Franklin, and Michael Eskew
Three of Georgia’s most recognized leaders were inducted into Georgia State University’s Business Hall of Fame in a ceremony held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Buckhead. Atlanta mayor Shirley Franklin; Michael Eskew, chairman and chief executive officer for UPS; and Jere Drummond, retired vice chairman of BellSouth Corporation, were honored at the dinner. John Portman, chairman of the board and founder of John Portman & Associates, Inc; Sam Williams, president of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce; and John Aderhold, chairman, Aderhold Properties, are just a few of those who were on hand for the event. Georgia State’s Robinson College Business Hall of Fame provides the highest recognition given by the college to business leaders for their efforts in advancing the principles of the free market system while serving Atlanta’s national and international business communities.
