ROBINSON PROFESSOR NAMED
EDITOR OF TOP INFO SYSTEMS JOURNAL
Detmar Straub, J. Mack Robinson Distinguished Professor of
Information Systems and director of the College’s doctoral
program, has been named to a three-year term as editor in chief
of MIS Quarterly, an academic journal consistently ranked as the
number one journal in the information systems field. He assumes
the position on January 1, 2008.
Straub is recognized as one of the top academics in computer
security. He currently holds the position of senior editor for MIS
Quarterly, where he has also served as an associate editor, associate
publisher, and a member of the MISQ Policy Committee. His
background includes editorial service on numerous other IS and
international business journals. He is the author of more than
140 articles and has served the IS community in other capacities,
including vice president of publications for the Association for
Information Systems, and program cochair for both AMCIS
(Americas Conference on Information Systems) and ICIS
(International Conference on Information Systems).
One of the leading publishers of scholarly research in the
world, MIS Quarterly contains research on IT-based services,
the management of information technology resources, and the
economics and use of information technology with managerial and
organizational implications. Straub joined Georgia State in 1992. He
was previously a faculty member at the University of Minnesota.
ASSOCIATION PLEDGE ESTABLISHES FACULTY POST IN RMI
The American Association of Managing General Agents
(AAMGA) has pledged $1 million to fund an endowment
through the Georgia State University Foundation for the
establishment of a Distinguished Chair in the College’s
Risk Management and Insurance Department. The
endowment will provide for the study of the global
dynamics of the insurance industry. The AAMGA is an
international trade association composed of the premier
wholesale property and casualty agents and companies in
the insurance industry.

Robinson alumni Sandra E. Bergeron, chairman of the board
for TraceSecurity, Inc.; Richard Lenny, chairman, president,
and CEO of the Hershey Company; Parker H. “Pete” Petit,
chairman and CEO of Matria Healthcare, Inc.; along with
Alexis Scott, publisher of the Atlanta Daily World, were
inducted into the College’s Business Hall of Fame at an event
held in May.
A record crowd of more than 400 attendees, including
former Georgia Governor Carl Sanders; Robert Eckert,
chairman and CEO of Mattel Inc.; and former NFL coach
Dan Reeves celebrated the accomplishments of the four
honorees.
The Business Hall of Fame is the highest recognition given by
the College to business leaders for their efforts in advancing
the principles of the free market system while serving the
