Dean's Letter - Atlanta's Business Backbone

Dear Alumni and Friends,

The Robinson College proudly claims to play a major role in the success of Atlanta’s global business community. You probably have seen one of our ads or heard us tout the fact that more top Georgia executives have advanced degrees from Robinson and Georgia State than from any other school in the nation.

In this issue of State of Business we learn why Atlanta has become such an international business center and the influence exerted by the Robinson College and its some 40,000 Atlanta-area alumni.

In an exclusive interview for State of Business, Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin reviews her nearly two terms in office, gives us a candid look at the opportunities and problems facing the city, and comments on the importance of Georgia State and the Robinson College.

We also turn to seven of our most prominent alumni to add their unique perspectives on Atlanta’s progress and its promise for the future.

As an international city, Atlanta has 1,600 companies with operations in various parts of the world. Enhancing the city’s global status is Robinson’s presence on five continents. In this issue, you will see how the College is continuing to expand its footprint worldwide.

Helping Robinson grow is a group often overlooked, but very critical to our success: The Robinson Board of Advisors assists the College in many ways with access, advice and support. Outgoing and incoming chairs, Tom Body and Pete Petit, talk about some of the board’s recent accomplishments and its plans for the future.

You also will read how two alumni are making significant differences in business and our community. Mark Holland has turned a passion to help into a unique business opportunity benefitting older Americans while Crissy Klaus is translating her concern for the environment into a daycare center that helps children “go green” at a very early age.

Rajeev Dhawan’s economic forecast, the latest news, and other features make this issue one we hope you will read cover to cover.

We appreciate your support of the College and welcome your comments and suggestions.
