Tribute to a Master
When Yves St. Laurent died on June 1, the
fashion world paid tribute. So did the College’s naming benefactor J.
Mack Robinson, who was mentioned in St. Laurent’s obituary in the New
York Times and was interviewed about St. Laurent by Maria Saporta of
the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The 47-year friendship between the
Atlanta businessman and the haute couturier began in 1961 when Robinson
financed the opening of the house of Laurent. In the Times obituary,
Robinson recalled that he had backed St. Laurent based on the
excitement generated by his collections for Christian Dior.
Memory Lapse
The looming exodus of baby boomers from the
workforce will result in “the loss of good corporate experience — the
corporate memory, so to speak,” according to James Senn, director of
the Center for Global Leadership, quoted in a recent issue of the
Atlanta Business Chronicle. Senn said that companies will find it
“increasingly difficult to fill some of these positions because of the
growing talent shortage,” and that the issue is worldwide. “We hear the
same thing in China and in boom towns like Dubai. It’s just a huge
global issue.”
