BUSINESS HALL OF FAME
Recognizes Georgia Business Leaders

Three of Georgia's most recognized business leaders were inducted into Georgia State University's Business Hall of Fame in a ceremony held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Buckhead. A.D. "Pete" Correll, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer for Georgia-Pacific Corp.; R. Charles Loudermilk, Sr., chairman and chief executive officer for Aaron Rents, Inc.; and Bonnie L. Phipps, president and chief executive officer for St. Joseph's Health System, were honored at the dinner.

John Portman, chairman of the board and founder for John Portman & Associates, Inc. Sam Williams, president of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce; and John Aderhold, chairman, Aderhold Properties, are just a few of those who were on hand for the event.

Georgia State's Robinson College Business Hall of Fame provides the highest recognition given by the college to business leaders for their efforts in advancing the principles of the free market system while serving Atlanta's national and international business communities.

HOSPITALITY SCHOOL RECEIVES TOP INDUSTRY AWARDS

For years, the joke was on Debbie Robbe, an instructor with the Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration at Robinson College. She had become her industry's version of soap opera vixen Susan Lucci, nominated annually for an "Allie Award" but never a winner.

Not that she faces an even contest, as her students annually compete against businesses and corporations stocked with experience and thousands of dollars more in their budgets.

But despite those disparities, Robbe and her students finally bucked tradition at this year's awards. After being nominated four years in a row, the class received two trophies ("Best Menu on a Shoestring" and "Best Event on a Shoestring") from the International Special Events Society and the National Association of Catering Executives, which sponsors the competition. It is the first time a college or university has received an "Allie."

The annual Allie Awards honor special events companies that are members of the Greater Atlanta Chapter of the National Association of Catering Executives or the International Special Events Society.
