RCB  Faculty Among Most Productive in Nation

Faculty at Georgia State University's Robinson College of Business are among the most productive in the nation in research, according to a study published in the December 2000 Academy of Management Journal. The Robinson College of Business ranked 6th among business schools in the Southeast and 41st among schools nationwide for research productivity.

The study examined the number of pages published in 20 "top tier" business academic journals from 1986 to 1998 in thirteen disciplines grouped into eight groups: accounting, finance, insurance/international business/real estate, management science, management, management information systems, marketing, and production/operations management. Authored by business researchers at the University of Georgia, University of Illinois and Southern Methodist University, the study is the first cross-disciplinary comparative study of research productivity at the nation's business schools. Previous studies focused on only one discipline such as accounting, marketing or finance.

Among specific disciplines, the Robinson College ranks in the top ten nationwide in four disciplines: 9th in insurance, international business, and real estate (areas grouped together for purpose of the study) and 4th in management of information systems.

"This latest survey is an indication of the quality and quantity of our research and the knowledge generation capacity in the College," said Dean Sidney E. Harris. "Our top-notch faculty are recruited from the nation's elite graduate programs and are well respected in their disciplines. This survey is another confirmation that they are fulfilling the College's strategic mission of advancing the creation and dissemination of knowledge in business and management."

The latest research ranking comes on the heels of a study done by the Journal of Marketing Education (August 2000) that ranked the College's Department of Marketing faculty as the 22nd most prolific in the nation for research productivity from 1991 to 1998.

The J. Mack Robinson College of Business is one of the nation's top ranked b-schools. The College's part-time MBA program has been listed in the top ten by U.S. News & World Report for six years, moving up in the 2002 rankings to number five. In addition, Business Week lists the College's Executive MBA program as one of the top 20 programs in the country; and Forbes recognizes the College as one of the best business schools for return on investment. With approximately 8,200 students, the College is one of the nation's largest accredited business programs.
