ATLANTA, September 11, 2000 - Five undergraduate programs in the J. Mack Robinson College of Business are among the best in the nation, according to the latest undergraduate program rankings just released by U.S.News & World Report.

In the magazine's September 11, 2000 special edition titled "America's Best Colleges," Georgia State's Robinson College was listed as having the 8th best electronic commerce program, the 8th best real estate program in the nation, the 13th best management information systems program, and the 26th best management program in the country. Additionally, the College's insurance program is ranked as the 2nd best in the country, according to the magazine's most recent ranking of insurance programs. The rankings are the result of reputational surveys sent to deans and senior faculty at business schools around the nation. The full rankings may be viewed at the magazine's web site at usnews.com.

Among public universities or state-supported institutions, the Robinson College's rankings improve to 4th in electronic commerce, 6th in real estate, 9th in management information systems, 19th in general management and 1st in insurance.

"This acknowledgment by our peers reflects positively on the quality of our faculty and programs," said Dean Sidney E. Harris. "We're very pleased that several of our undergraduate specialty areas are being recognized nationally in addition to our world renowned graduate programs," he said.

"Education is one of the engines of economic growth in the Atlanta area, and there is high demand for our graduates. They are ambitious, creative and entrepreneurial. We are pleased that the value of a degree from the Robinson College, both at the undergraduate and graduate level, is increasingly being recognized by our peers across the country. This is also being reflected in the rising quality of students who are applying for admissions."

At the graduate level, the Robinson College is currently ranked as having the ninth best part-time MBA program in the nation. The College has been listed in the top 10 for the flexible MBA program for the past five years. Additionally, the College's graduate programs in management information systems and health administration are ranked 17th and 35th respectively by U.S.News. The College's Executive MBA program is ranked as one of the "top 20 leading programs" by Business Week magazine. The College also is recognized by Forbes magazine as being the eighth best business school for return on investment for universities where total tuition cost less than $90,000.

Dr. Michael Jedel, chair of the Department of Management and associate dean of the J. Mack Robinson College of Business, attributed the rankings to the faculty. "Our faculty are leaders in their respective fields, conduct cutting edge research and hold numerous positions of leadership in the community and professional associations. First and foremost, they are excellent teacher-scholars who are constantly seeking to prepare students with the best in business theory and practice."

Based on fall semester figures, approximately 5,500 students are enrolled in the College's undergraduate programs and 2,500 are enrolled as graduate students, making the J. Mack Robinson College of Business the 6th largest business school in the nation.
