Robinson College of Business Establishes Center to Research Issues In Health Services Industry
ATLANTA, March 13 --- The Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University has established a research center that will assess the delivery and practice of health care services. The Center for Health Services Research was recently approved by the University System's Board of Regents, the governing body for state programs and curriculum.
Research will by conducted by 11 full-time and adjunct faculty from the College's Institute of Health Administration, the Robinson College and other colleges at Georgia State University. Research will be done in collaboration with external health care organizations and will concentrate on five key areas in health care: integrated health systems management, information technology, quality and value measurement, medical group practice management and program evaluation.
It is anticipated that the Center will collaborate and build upon existing contracts with health services organizations in the Southeast including major health systems, hospitals, medical groups, state agencies, and public health organizations. "Having a Center dedicated to studying the outcomes of health care and how it is currently being delivered and managed is critical to understanding what's good and bad about its current state," said Dr. Robert Curry, Center director and visiting professor of health administration. "Once we are able to analyze best practices, then we can serve as a resource for helping to improve the delivery and management of health care locally, regionally, nationally and internationally."
Curry noted that interest by outside health care organizations in utilizing the services of the Center stem from the Center's ability to draw upon strong academic linkages, industry experts and strategic alliance partners. In addition, companies may sponsor research with the Center as a result of their limited resources and time to support a large research project internally, and because a certain issue is outside of that company's area of specialization.
