Mutchler Named Associate Dean for Robinson College

October 10, 2001 - Jane F. Mutchler, Director and Ernst & Young-J.W. Holloway Memorial Alumni Professor in the School of Accountancy at Georgia State's J. Mack Robinson College of Business, has been named the College's Associate Dean for Master's Programs. The appointment, effective immediately, was announced on October 10 by Dean Sidney E. Harris. Mutchler replaces Mike Jedel, who retired in August.

According to Dean Harris, "Jane is an outstanding leader. She is first and foremost an educator, but has proven to be an exceptional administrator, tactician and visionary for her department and for the College. She will play a key role in Robinson's future success."

Mutchler joined the College as director of the School of Accountancy in 1999. Her efforts to enhance programs and strengthen curriculum resulted in the School of Accountancy being ranked among the top 20 in the nation in CPA Personnel Report's annual survey of accounting faculty nationwide. During that time she also improved the department's outreach with alumni and the business community.

Prior to coming to Georgia State, Mutchler was the Arthur Andersen Professor of Accounting at Pennsylvania State University and held positions at University of Arizona and the Ohio State University.

Her research focuses on the financial statements of financially troubled companies and the related audit reports. She has published results of her research in Journal of Accounting Research, The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, and the Journal of Expert Systems. She is on the editorial board of Contemporary Accounting Research, and is an associate editor for Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory.

Mutchler has received several KPMG, Peat Marwick Foundation Research Opportunities in Auditing grants and has been a KPMG Peat Marwick Research and Faculty Fellow. She served as a vice president of the American Accounting Association, is active on the Board of Research Advisors of the Institute of Internal Auditors and has received research grants from that organization. Her other professional affiliations include American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and Institute of Management Accountants.

She has her Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, master's of accounting (M.ACC.) and bachelor's (BA) degrees from the University of South Florida. She is also a registered CPA.

The J. Mack Robinson College of Business is one of the nation's top business schools.
