Skipper to Chair Risk Management and Insurance Department at Robinson
September, 2001 - Dr. Harold D. Skipper, Jr. has been named Chair of the Department of Risk Management and Insurance (RMI) at the J. Mack Robinson College of Business.
Skipper replaces the retiring Dr. Bruce Palmer, who in eight years as department chair led RMI to its current ranking as the nation's second best program and first among all public universities in the United States.
Dr. Skipper has been a Professor of Risk Management and Insurance since 1987 and in 1993 became holder of the of the C.V. Starr Chair of International Insurance. From June to September 1997 he served as a Shaw Foundation Professor at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
Previously Dr. Skipper had served as the Director and Interim Chair of RMI from 1986 through 1993. In 1990 he served as a visiting professor at the University of Paris-VII. His major non-academic activities include serving as a consultant to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on insurance-related public policy issues. He was an Economics Affairs Officer with the United Nations in Geneva. His is past president of the American Risk and Insurance Association and past vice president of the International Insurance Society. He is a member of numerous professional organizations and several Boards of Directors.
Skipper holds Ph.D. and M.A, degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.B.A. from the Robinson College. He most recently authored Life and Health Insurance, 13th Edition with Kenneth Black, Jr., published by Prentice Hall.
