Cannon Named Director of Robinson College's Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality

January 14, 2002- Debra F. Cannon, associate professor at Georgia State's J. Mack Robinson College of Business, has been named director for the college's Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality Administration, the largest and only accredited school in Georgia dedicated to the hospitality industry. The appointment, effective immediately, was announced today by Dean Sidney E. Harris.

"For the past 10 months, Debby has done an outstanding job while serving as Interim Director," said Harris. "She has created many new initiatives that have increased enrollment and raised the level of awareness for the school among professional organizations. Her skills as an educator and leader will bring many new and exciting opportunities to the Cecil B. Day School."

Cannon joined the College in 1991 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2000. Since becoming Interim Director in December 2000, Cannon has been focusing on several initiatives for the school including; on-line courses, a Certificate of Hospitality Administration for non-majors, continuing education classes, and a partnership with the Dalian University of Technology in China.

Prior to joining Georgia State, she was a Corporate Director of Professional Development with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and a Director of Human Resources with Hyatt Hotels.


Cannon's research has been published in journals including the International Journal of Hospitality Management, Hospitality and Tourism Educator, and the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management. She has also conducted funded research for hospitality organizations such as the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Georgia Hospitality and Travel Association.

Cannon has her Ph.D. from Georgia State University, masters of science (MS) from the University of Georgia and bachelor's (BS) degree from Armstrong State College.
