February 25, 2002 (Atlanta) - Dr. David Nachman, finance professor at Georgia State University's Robinson College of Business, was selected to nominate candidates for the Nobel Prize in economics by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences - the first Georgia State faculty member to receive such an honor, according to university administrators.
"This honor is in recognition to the many contributions Professor Nachman has made to the field of financial economics," said Gerry Gay, chair of the finance department. "The honor is also a reflection of the stature held by the Department of Finance as a leader in financial market research and education."
Nachman, a professor with Robinson College since 1992, is an expert in corporate finance theory and asset pricing. He is a reviewer from major journals in finance and economic theory and former associate editor for Mathematical Finance.
Invitations for candidate nominations are sent to members within the economic science community throughout the world. Nominations are reviewed by a specially appointed panel of experts who then present their recommendation to the Academy. The winner is announces in October.
The Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel is presented each year to a person or persons who have produced work of outstanding importance in Economic Sciences.
