Robinson College Teams with Sorbonne and Federal University of Rio de Janeiro to Launch Global Partners MBA

Extended Stays, Unique Curriculum Put Students in Forefront of Business Around the World

October 14, 2002 (Atlanta) - The Robinson College of Business will team with leading b-schools in Paris (the Sorbonne) and Rio de Janeiro (the COPPEAD Graduate School of Business, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. ) to offer a new Global Partners MBA (global MBA.) The first class is scheduled to launch in January 2004. (See website.)

This unique program will feature a 12-month curriculum with extended international residencies and on-site internships. Students will spend approximately one-quarter of the year in Atlanta, dividing the remainder between Paris and Rio. Also planned are two weeks of study in China.

"No other program will offer the variety and in-depth exposure to international business that will be provided by the Global Partners MBA," said Sidney E. Harris, Dean of the Robinson College. "Students will go on-site to learn not only basic economic principles but also see how the social and cultural aspects of a country influence ways of doing business."

Harris added, "We are honored to be in partnership with the COPPEAD Graduate School of Business and the Sorbonne of Paris. Not only will students be learning in four of the world's most vibrant business centers, they will also benefit from the renowned faculty associated with all three institutions."

The curriculum for the Global Partners MBA will combine courses from Robinson's nationally ranked MBA program with meetings and presentations by business leaders, academics and government officials within each of the four continents. One of the unique aspects of the program will be its emphasis on commercial diplomacy.

"Commercial diplomacy is an area that isn't given a lot of attention in other international programs because it's not something that you can simply learn in class. You must experience it first-hand," said H. Fenwick Huss, Robinson associate dean. "The Global Partners MBA program will enable students to witness and learn how the different cultures affect the way business is conducted in each region."

Students will be recruited globally and open houses will be held in  Europe, South America and the United States. The degree received will be from the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University.  Classes will be limited to 40 students.

Concluded Dean Harris, "Today's competitive global marketplace has created a need for business leaders with a demonstrated understanding of the challenges involved in conducting business on an international scale. In partnering with the Sorbonne and Rio's COPPEAD Graduate School of Business we are uniquely positioned to provide students with a one-of-a-kind program that will enable them to learn and experience, first-hand, the intricacies of doing business on a global level."
