July 11, 2002 (Atlanta) - The Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality at the Robinson College of Business has been listed among the top 25 programs by the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Education. The School of Hospitality ranked 13th in the nation overall and received top ten scores for curriculum, quality of faculty, and student body. This is the first comprehensive ranking of hospitality programs since 1993.
"The Hospitality and Tourism industry is an important sector in this region and a vital component of the nation's economy," said Dr. Sidney E. Harris, dean of the Robinson College of Business. "Over the past few years we have been steadfast in our commitment to building a first class school of hospitality and we are proud to be recognized among the country's top universities."
According to Debra Cannon, director of the school of hospitality, "A strong curriculum, quality faculty and a dedicated student body are key elements. The fact that we ranked within the top 10 in each of these areas is a testament to the strength and success of our program."
The rankings are based on a survey of deans, chairs, and directors of colleges and universities with four-year hospitality programs. The survey is comprised of six distinctive sections that included questions pertaining to curriculum development and standards, faculty, student body, alumni relations, and an overall prestige ranking.
The Cecil B. Day School of Hospitality is the largest and only accredited program in Georgia.
