William F. Messier Appointed to Auditing Standards Board

January 9, 2003 (ATLANTA, GA) -- William F. Messier, Jr., Deloitte & Touche professor of accountancy and Interim Chair of the Accounting department at the Robinson College of Business, was recently appointed to serve on the Auditing Standards Board for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
Messier is the author of Auditing and Assurance Services: An Integrated Approach, third edition and has published over 50 articles in accounting, decision science, and computer science journals. He is also the editor of Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory and is the former chairperson of the Auditing Section of the American Accounting Association. In addition to Robinson College, Messier a professor II at the Institute for Accounting & Auditing, Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration and a visiting professor at SDA Bocconi in Milan, Italy. He holds a B.B.A. from Siena College, an M.S. from Clarkson University, and an M.B.A. and D.B.A. from Indiana University. He is also a CPA in Florida.
The Auditing Standards Board is the AICPA's senior technical committee responsible for setting auditing standards and procedures. The 15 member committee is currently working on auditing standards to respond to the Sarbannes-Oxley Act and the new SEC rules. The ASB meets periodically with other organizations including the Financial Accounting Standards Board, the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the American Accounting Association, the American Bar Association, the Financial Executives Institute, and the Institute of Internal Auditors.
The AICPA is the national, professional organization for all Certified Public Accountants. Its mission is to provide members with the resources, information, and leadership that enable them to provide valuable services in the highest professional manner to benefit the public as well as employers and clients.
