March 30, 2004 (Atlanta) - Audrey Gramling, assistant professor of accounting at the Robinson College of Business, has been appointed as an academic fellow in the Office of the Chief Accountant at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Gramling will serve a one-year term beginning August 2004.
At the Commission, the academic accounting fellow serves as a research resource for the staff by interpreting and communicating research materials as they relate to various areas of interest to the SEC. In addition, the academic fellow has been assigned to ongoing projects in the Chief Accountant's office which include rulemaking, liaison with the professional accounting standards-setting bodies and consultation with registrants on accounting and reporting matters.
Gramling specializes in both internal and external auditing issues with a focus on decision behavior of auditors, audit firm industry specialization, and other factors affecting the market for audit and assurance services. Her research has been published in several academic and professional journals including the Journal of Accounting Research, Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, Accounting Horizons, Journal of Accounting, Auditing & Finance, Journal of Accounting Literature, Internal Auditing, and Issues in Accounting Education.
Prior to joining Robinson's faculty, Gramling was an assistant professor and PricewaterhouseCoopers Faculty Fellow in the Calloway School of Business and Accountancy at Wake Forest University. She has received research grants from the Institute of Internal Auditors and KPMG. Gramling received her Ph.D. from the University of Arizona, an M.P.A. from Georgia State University and a B.B.A. from the University of Toledo.
