Carnegie Mellon Prof to Chair Robinson's Risk Management and Insurance Department

June 24, 2004 (Atlanta) Sanjay Srivastava, associate dean and alumni professor of economics and finance at Carnegie Mellon University, has been named chair of the risk management and insurance department (RMI) at the Robinson College of Business. He replaces Harold Skipper who plans to retire next year. Srivastava's tenure as chair begins on July 1.
In addition to serving as associate dean for Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business, Srivastava was also director of the Graduate School of Industrial Administration's (GSIA) Center for Financial Analysis and Securities Trading (FAST) Program, a research and teaching program. He also founded the school's Computational Finance Program and directed the program for five years. Srivastava has served as a part-time visiting professor at Robinson since August 2002.
An accomplished researcher, Srivastava has been published in journals including Econometrica, the Journal of Risk, Journal of Finance, Journal of Economic Theory, Review of Financial Studies, Review of Economic Studies, and the Journal of International Economics. He has also served on the editorial boards of several research publications and is the author of several textbooks. In addition to Georgia State and Carnegie Mellon, Srivastava has taught at the California Institute of Technology, ITESM in Mexico, and Aoyama Gakuin University in Japan.
He earned his B.A. in Economics at Warwick University in the United Kingdom and his Ph.D. in Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
In addition to his post as chair, Srivastava will also serve as executive director for Educational Foundation, Inc. (EFI), the department's non-profit venture which raises funds to support the risk management programs at Robinson, recruitment and retention of top faculty, scholarships to deserving students, promote and support important faculty research.
Robinson's risk management and insurance program is the largest and one of the most respected programs in the world. U.S. News & World Report ranks the undergraduate program as the top program in the nation among public universities and second overall for three consecutive years.
