May 2, 2005 (Atlanta) - Alan J. Ziobrowski, associate professor at the Robinson College of Business, has been named a recipient of the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis' (JFQA) William F. Sharpe Award for Scholarship in Financial Research for the best paper published in 2004.
The award was given in honor of Ziobrowski's paper, "Abnormal Returns from the Common Stock Investments of the United States Senate." (JFQA December 2004), which he co-authored with Ping Cheng, assistant professor at Florida Atlantic University, James W. Boyd, associate professor at Kent State University and Brigitte J. Ziobrowski, professor at Augusta State University.
The William F. Sharpe Award recognizes excellence in financial research. Nominees for the Award are selected from polling JFQA readers, subscribers, and Associate Editors. The final award recipients are selected by the JFQA's Associate Editors.
Ziobrowksi's study focuses on investments made by U.S. Senators. In his findings, Ziobrowski suggests that U.S. Senators may be profiting from information unavailable to other investors. The results were based on the findings that showed Senators' common stock investments significantly outperformed the earnings of other investors by almost 12% annually.
