Four Receive National Honors at the American Accounting Association's Annual Meeting
August 9, 2006 (Atlanta, GA) -J. Mack Robinson College of Business faculty members Lawrence D. Brown, the J. Mack Robinson College of Business Distinguished Professor of Accountancy; Ernest R. Larkins, Alumni Professor of Accountancy; Julian Diaz III, professor and chair of the real estate department; and R. Lynn Hannan, assistant professor of accountancy were honored at this year's American Accounting Association's (AAA) annual meeting on August 6 in Washington, D.C.
Brown received the Association's (AAA) Outstanding Educator Award for his contributions to accounting education from scholarly endeavors in research and teaching over a sustained period of time. In 2003, Brown was listed by Business Finance magazine as one of the nation's most influential people. He is the author or co-author of over 80 publications, and he has made more than 160 presentations at universities and professional conferences.
Larkins and Diaz were recipients of the award for Innovation in Accounting Education for their paper, "Locating and Evaluating Tax Authority." The award recognizes significant programmatic changes or a significant activity, concept, or set of materials. It is designed to encourage innovation and improvement in accounting education. Lakins and Diaz are the second and third members of the Robinson faculty to receive this award. Faye Borthwick, professor and director of the Teaching and Learning with Technology Center, received the award in 2000.
Hannan received the award for Notable Contributions to Accounting Literature for her paper, "Honesty in Managerial Reporting," which examines how preferences for wealth and honesty affect managerial reporting. The award recognizes research of exceptional merit. Criteria for the award include uniqueness and the potential magnitude of the contribution to accounting education, and practice and/or future accounting research.
