Robinson Faculty Honored For Excellence
June 9, 2006 (ATLANTA) The J. Mack Robinson College of Business honored three of its own with the 2006 Board of Advisors Faculty Excellence Award. The annual award recognizes faculty members for excellence in teaching, research and service.
This year's recipients are Balasubramaniam Ramesh (teaching), Peter G. Zhang (research), and Beverly Langford (service).
Ramesh, professor of Computer Information Systems, has received numerous awards for his teaching and research contributions. In his courses, he draws heavily upon his industry and research experiences which are focused on supporting knowledge intensive, complex organizational processes such as business process redesign, and concurrent product development. He is a recipient of over 20 research grants funded by several prestigious government and industry sources and his work has appeared in several leading conferences and journals including the IEEE Transactions of Software Engineering and MIS Quarterly.
Zhang, associate professor of managerial sciences, has received multiple awards for his research. His current work focuses on developing and applying decision-making tools such as artificial neural networks, time series analysis, operations research, and statistics to solve a variety of business problems in forecasting, inventory control, project management, quality assurance, supply chain management, and advanced manufacturing systems. He serves as an associate editor of Neurocomputing, one of the leading academic journals in the neural networks field. He is also on the editorial review board of International Journal of E-Business Research and Production and Operations Management.
Langford, business communications instructor within the department of marketing, has served in leadership roles that go beyond the requirements of her position. She has helped steer Robinson's Business Communications Program from its inception in the late 1980s, has served the College through her involvement with University mentoring programs, and has helped design and deliver the professional development program for the Georgia State Leadership Academy for Women. She also serves as co-director for Robinson's Women's Mentor Program and the Women's Leadership Forum. Active in her local community as well, Langford serves on several boards including the Board of Directors of the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce.
Nominations for the Faculty Recognition Awards are submitted by department chairs and are selected based on criteria set by members of the college's Executive Committee.
