Lawrence D. Brown Named 2006 Outstanding Accounting Educator by the American Accounting Association

(Atlanta, GA) -  Lawrence D. Brown, the J. Mack Robinson College of Business Distinguished Professor of Accountancy, has been named the 2006 recipient of the American Accounting Association's (AAA) Outstanding Educator Award. He will be honored by his colleagues at the Association's annual meeting August 6 – 9, in Washington,D.C.

The $5,000 award, funded by PriceWaterhouseCoopers Foundation, generally goes to two individuals in the field of accounting each year who have made a contribution to accounting education from scholarly endeavors in research and teaching over a sustained period of time. This can be through innovation, teaching excellence, publications, graduate student guidance or significant involvement in professional societies. Brown will be sole award recipient for 2006.
In their announcement, the AAA cited a recommendation a past winner who said, "(Brown) has become the world's leading expert on analysts' forecasts of accounting earnings and his publication record in this area is unparalleled. His earnings forecast research is always of high quality and his work attracts the attention of professional security analysts as well as the attention of academics. Brown has also pioneered research on the use of citations to address a variety of issues of concern to academics."

In 2003, Brown was listed by Business Finance magazine's as one of the nation's most influential people. He is the author or co-author of over 80 publications, and he has made more than 160 presentations at universities and professional conferences. He is a past editor of The Accounting Review and an associate editor of Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance and Review of Quantitative Finance and Accounting. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Annual Conference on Financial Economics and Accounting, has twice served as Accounting Chair for its Annual Conference, and will be Accounting Chair for 2006 when it is held at Georgia State University. Brown regularly serves as a reviewer for leading professional and academic journals.
