December 5, 2008 (ATLANTA) More than 100 alumni and friends of the Robinson College attended a special "welcome" event for Bill Curry, head football coach at Georgia State University and recently-named Robinson Distinguished Executive Fellow.
The event, held November 20 at the Buckhead Club, and hosted by Dean H. Fenwick Huss, featured Curry talking about leadership—the subject he will discuss as a lecturer in the Robinson Executive Education program beginning in 2009.
Curry spoke about leadership lessons he learned during his days as a player at Georgia Tech and later in his career as starting center for three Super Bowl champions with Green Bay and Baltimore. He also discussed his time as a coach with Tech, Alabama and Kentucky.
Also touched upon were his love/hate relationship with the legendary Packer coach Vince Lombardi, the difficulties of breaking in with the storied Green Bay franchise, his friendship with Hall of Fame defensive end Willie Davis, how he dealt with difficult fans at Alabama and Kentucky, and, overall, the many lessons that an individual can take from the gridiron and transfer to everyday life.
Curry has already hired a coaching staff and begun recruiting. The first-ever Georgia State Panther football team will take the field in the fall of 2010.
