Robinson College of Business Computing Skills Prerequisites (CSPs)
Because computer use is an integral part of business, courses in the Robinson College of Business (RCB) frequently require students to use information technology. Although students can expect to enhance their computing skills as they work toward their degrees, RCB expects students to have basic skills before enrolling. These computing skills are the Basic Microcomputing Skills (CSP 1). When courses require additional computing skills, the required skills are indicated in the course description by CSP numbers. GSU and RCB have standardized on the Microsoft Office Suite in the student computer labs and classrooms.
Students are expected to acquire the required computing skills through whatever means they deem most appropriate before enrolling in a course. Free eTraining is available to students. eTraining comprises web-based courses on a variety of skills, including the desktop technologies included in the CSPs. The GSU Information Systems & Technology (IS&T) University Educational Technology Services (UETS) offers basic classes regularly (some free and some for a fee). Instruction is also available through commercial training and printed and tutorial programs, including those furnished by software companies.
The CSPs listed in the catalog for a particular course are required for all sections of the course. Individual instructors may require additional CSPs by announcing the requirements on the syllabus and providing guidance for students as to how they can acquire the additional skills.
