Project Description: Metriva helps companies with strategy execution. As a part of our mission to help organizations achieve their strategic goals, we conduct research from time-to-time in order to identify and characterize problems that cause strategies to fail in practice. Currently, we are interested in characterizing the effect of organizational distance between subject matter experts and the places decisions are actually made.

In our experience, inefficiencies can arise within organizations when key decisions (pricing, contract terms, etc.) are made several management layers away from those individuals who have a more complete understanding of the relevant issues. We would like to develop a white paper to explore in depth the extent to which gaps between decision makers and subject matter experts vary within and across different industry groups in order to quantify any financial and non-financial ramifications.
